I don't believe there are any conflicts in restoring to El Capitan from Snow Leopard (but someone can please correct me if I'm uninformed).Ĥ.) Yes. That way if you're unhappy with El Capitan, you can revert to a fresh Snow Leopard install & restore from that backup. As it is, Time Machine isn't thrilled with FAT-type partition schemes (refuses to use those devices, IIRC).ģ.) I'd recommend using Time Machine. My 2010 13" MacBook Pro ran El Capitan just fine (before I turned it into a FreeBSD machine).Ģ.) That file system would be fine. I'd consider bumping it up to the max of 8 if you could find it cheap somewhere. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'd rather not use CC if possible.Īgain, sorry if these are really simple questions, but I just want to make sure that I'm doing everything right before I attempt this update.ġ.) Are you referring to the late 2008 MacBook with the aluminum body? RAM is a bit light in that model, but its at the recommended minimum. I use Photoshop CS6 very frequently, and have heard about some compatibility issues with El Capitan. If I end up needing to downgrade to 10.6.8, can I just reinstall it from the install disk that came with my mac? Is it at all possible to install El Capitan only on the external drive (and boot to that drive) while leaving 10.6.8 on my computer? Alternatively: Regarding the external drive, will I be ok if I format it to Mac OS Extended Journaled? I don't plan on using the drive with a Windows computer.įor backing up, should I use Time Machine or Migration Assistant? Are there any problems restoring from Time Machine on El Capitan? Should I even update? Will my computer be able to handle the new OS with the above specs? I'm pretty sure this model is officially supported, but still… I have a 1TB external hard drive but have not yet formatted it or backed up my files. I am planning to update my macbook (13in, build 10K549, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3) from Snow Leopard (10.6.8) to the latest version of El Capitan. Sorry if this has been asked before, or if these are really basic questions, but I haven't yet found a post with all the info I want.
